there was a exhibition in town celebrating 100 years of New Zealand Surf Life Saving today so we went and had a look :)
Billy had a go on the IRB (inflatable rescue boat) simulator
below swimming suits over the years wore by club members
1920s woolen// 1970s nylon// present day lycra

there was a statue and then then a photo of the way they use to do rescues. Attached to the reel and their life jacket was simply corks covered in cloth - arrrr!!

That looks like a very interesting trip, especially for a teenage boy.
