Floods and Slips very close to us

Its been raining a lot throughout New Zealand in the last week or so

Tonight as we were watching the news we saw this

we drew the lounge curtains back and saw this
a fire engine with the barrier behind it

We have part of the hill at the end of our driveway so checked that it was still intact it was
Our driveway is a common one and its entrance is a bit up the road from our actual address
I walked around the small block from our driveway to our front steps that lead up to our house and all seemed ok

A bit of excitement, B14 is now vowing to keep his cat inside until further notice
and hes prepared the cat box unless we get evacuated - I dont think we will

The Colours in My Life

Yesterday was a blue grey day
After dropping D4 with his dad
B14 and I went to the funeral to say goodbye to a dear friend
she only suffered 14 months mercifully
A real Proverbs 31 lady

It was pouring down outside
and in the church
I held in so much of what I was feeling
resulting in somehow putting my neck out
and giving myself an aching head for the rest of the day

In the afternoon I trudged along through the rain collecting my catalogues
Still the rain poured
and my head ached

Today I awoke with the alarm clock at 630
This morning I scurried along with my trusty old $8 mountain buggy
delivering newspapers along the way
up and down the hills
Autumn seems to really have come to the Bay
here and there I see a carpet of red, yellow and brown leaves like a carpet on the road
I see a boat awaiting a tug boat or two to pull it in
I am rewarded with great views and
The sun rises promising a better day today

My Bittersweet Day

Thank you for your birthday messages :)
I was treated to breakfast in bed
I was gifted a beautiful cross necklace (which I have vowed to wear all the time), a bottle of nail polish and my daughter made me a very clever home made card
I was sang happy birthday on the phone
we went to McDonalds for dinner
it was a nice day
however it was also bittersweet . . .

The phone call I received as well as being sweet when my friend sang Happy Birthday to me
was also tinged with sadness
at 6.50 am
another friend lost her life to cancer

I didnt get to see her when she got it for the 2nd time
in ways I am now thankful for that
I remember her in the lounge room at church with a group of us gathered around a table learning more of the word from her
she was such a knowledgeable lady about our Lord

I remember her generously allowing us to share her family dinner when we popped in once because we were in the neighborhood
she was a quiet but wise lady

she is with the Lord now
He has given her that welcoming hug that I look forward to one day
she is out of pain
I will miss you dear friend

Saying Goodbye to my 30s

For all the ups and downs I had in my 30s I think they were the best years of my life
I learnt a lot
I hope the 40s will be just as good

When I was 30/31 I was home schooling my older daughter
I enjoyed home schooling her
teaching her phonics (which I dont think the schools did a very good job at teaching)
I had my own curriculum for her it was interesting
B14 had a term of home schooling but I found it too hard going so he went to school
We were living in Auckland (were I grew up)

When I was 32
I decided after 2 and 1/2 years of home schooling my daughter that she was getting to smart for me and sent her back to school
I started fulfilling a dream of mine to teach kindergarten children and started what would turn out to be a 3 and 1/2 year bachelor of education
I gained so much more confidence in the first year :)

When I was 33/34 and after 7 long years on my own I started going through my turbulent years
I was sheltered as a teenager and so I really didnt experience the stuff teenagers did so went a bit wild
I decided that it was taking God far to long to find me a man and I needed one (Ive recently decided God always knows best!!)
I dated several on an internet dating site
one in particular was BAD!!!!
it would take me some time to recover from him
it didnt stop me though I dated 2 more men after him
one being D4s dad

My mid 30s saw us move down to Napier to where I consider to be where I will spend the rest of my life unless of God has other plans
I got my bachelor the last 6 months I studied through correspondence
I had my youngest and vowed to enjoy very day with him
Children grow too fast us mothers need to cherish each day with our children they are only little for such a fleeting second
My mid 30s also saw my heart break
my older daughter decided to go and first live with her father, then grandparents
(more about that later :))

When I was 37 I began home schooling again B14 this time
people had been saying for years that I needed to do it
he has learning disabilities and needs one on one tuition
D4s dad moved in with us
up until this point he had been more or less a weekend dad
I wanted more of a commitment even asking him to marry me which he declined

Last year saw me single again
It was a hard year
My life nearly fell apart
However God, friends and family pulled me through
There was also a very special reward that being that my daughter came back into my life

This year has seen me recover to a large extend from last year
I am content now
I have learnt to love me and treat myself as my own best friend
I am closer to God than ever before
I have decided that I am happy if He keeps me single from now on
I have learnt a lot over the last 10 years and although Im beginning to feel old look forward to all God has in-store for me

A Fun Saturday with My Boys

Today I got D4 for my first weekend of the year
been busy the other two I could have had - going to New Plymouth and then Wellington

I have him for 1 weekend every 4 weeks of the school term

so we decided to do something fun :)
we went to Jungle Junction some friends owe it :)

I Must Be Crazy or Mad

However being normal is highly over rated :) (from one of my favorite books)

This morning was a wet (although it wasnt raining when I went out) blustery (love that word reminds me of Pooh Bear) morning

when I woke up and went and did B14s paper run as I usually do on a Saturday morning
I do get paid
I do like walking
I dont like waking up at 630 (however B14 cant - typical teenager)
I wont like it even worse in the middle of winter

Am I crazy or what???

The Secret Garden

Over the past few weeks I have been reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett to B14 for part of our home schooling
Today we finished it and he wanted to see the DVD
so we got it out
it wasnt as good as the book (which I actually read twice)

Mary reminded us both of my sisters daughter (one of B14s cousins)

Simple Womans Daybook

FOR TODAY... 10 May

Outside my window. . . its another blue day :)

I am listening to...the tv B14 has it turned on

I am thinking... the fact that I stayed up far too late last night singing along to lyrics on the computer

I am thankful for...good friends :)

I am wearing... my dressing gown gonna get dressed soon slept in

I am going... to get my youngest back this afternoon I miss him when hes not with me

I am currently reading...still reading - nearly finished

I am hoping... this mornings home schooling goes well

Around the house...hope to get the washing done and I need to get some rollers for the inside of my dishwasher. The ones that make the dish draw roll out on. They have worn out. I need to go to a specialist dishwashing shop so hope they dont cost too much. Was hoping Mitre 10 would have them but they dont :(

One of my favorite things . . .singing :)

From my picture journal

What I spend half the night singing along too
Got it from my children for Mothers Day
Bless them

sun, pot, pills and me

This morning was COLD
I dressed up and went did B14s paper run
I did feel like this but in fact looked like this

As I was walking along the sun which was getting up shone brightly
parading before me a bright new day
full of new adventures and possibilities
I crossed one of the streets on my route and saw a sheet of pills lying on the road
I vowed to pick it up on the way back
for the next 10 minutes I worried about whether a child would pick it up and eat them
how could someone be so irresponsible
upon my return walk I picked them up
they were empty
thankfully
then my over active mind hoped that someone had ODed on them
I am such a worrier

On my way I saw a pot on a deck of someones house
this pot always reminds me of an old friend that due to unfortunate cirstances
we no longer associate
this pot also brings back memories of childhood when we use to stay holidays at her holiday house
it was a 100 year old cottage

funny what things remind you of

Friday Catch Up

Today (as B14 has the flu) I spent the day cleaning up the house and also reorganized my bedroom
moving my bed and chest of drawers
now I can get to my bed from both sides
so much easier to make my bed
I do like a nice clean house

Tomorrow after doing B14s paper run I will deliver my catalogues

what are your plans for the weekend?
