I long ago stopped making New Year resolutions. I used to be pressed into doing so but they are a recipe for failure and a stick others could use to beat me with when I slipped up. These days I refuse to hand anyone the stick.
I love your two quotations at the end. put them on your FB page before i purloin them as my "thought for the day" LOL!!
Jen, thanks for sharing and you are inspiring to many with your contentment and gratefulness for what you have and not living a life of always wanting. My father, one of seven from Liverpool, brought up by his mother and older siblings was only 6 when his father died and the youngest child but a baby. They all grew up happy and content and are the most amazing people today. They never went on holiday, toilet was at the end of the garden, baths were once a week in a tub in the kitchen with water heated over the fire.
They knew the secret that happiness is found within and not through material gain. Though of course they appreciate and enjoy material things, but the root of their happiness is so much deeper than 'things'.
I am so happy for you that you have such happiness with your children. If ever you get the chance to come to Wellington you and your children would be very welcome to stay with us for a few nights.
Wishing you all the very, very best.
Sarah x
P.S. I saw Knight and Day last night and it was so much fun to watch! Inception is next on my must see list!
My upbringing was very like that of Sarah's father - toilet at the end of the garden, no running water, baths in front of the fire once a week with water heated over the fire etc and no money. BUT it taught me to be content with small things and to appreciate what was really important in life.
